What is the Passé Composé?
The Passé Composé is one of the five tenses used in the past in French. This particular tense is used to describe past, completed tasks, and is often used in storytelling. You will have to identify and conjugate your auxiliary verb, and then use the past participle form of your main verb, as well as correctly place any modifiers and object nouns/pronouns. AUXILIARY VERBS
What are Auxiliary Verbs? What are French Auxiliary Verbs? Auxiliary verbs are also known as 'helping verbs'. The three most common auxiliary verbs are: be, do and have. What are Past Participle? What are Past Participle in French? A past participle indicates past or completed action or time. It is often called the 'ed' form as it is formed by adding d or ed, to the base form of regular verbs, however it is also formed in various other ways for irregular verbs. Prendre and Mettre are irregular verbs. They end in "RE" but DO NOT conjugate like the "RE" verbs.
Prendre means to take and when used with foods and beverages, PRENDRE, means to have.
Practice:
1. Take notes from page 116.
2. List the verbs that are like PRENDRE
Mettre means to put on, to wear (clothes), to turn on (the radio, the TV), to set (the table).
