Au café Project
NOTE: Each Term YOU will have a TERM PROJECT that will be announced on the page of the first chapter of the Unité. Each mini project (classwork, website practice, quiz and test) will allow you to advance towards the Final Term Project. You will find the Term Project on every page of the Unité as a reminder.
PROJECT: Au Café
Compose a dialogue that takes place in a restaurant or a café. Your scene may include 1, 2 or 3 other people (2, 3, or 4 people total), depending on your preferences. You should begin the scene by arriving and conclude by leaving after your meal. Something should happen during your scene that sets it apart from an ordinary meal. Be creative!
You will present your scene to the class with the assistance of your group. You will have some time to practice in class, but you should plan to make individual copies and practice outside of class as well. Your rehearsals can happen at lunch or before/after school. There is no need to meet outside school. Everyone should plan to participate in 1-2 other scenes.
The script should be at least 50 spoken lines, typed double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font. You will be graded on the accuracy of your written text, as well as your personal presentation.
Please bring an extra copy of your script for the teacher on the day you present it.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Will I have to bring in prompts?
A: Mme Beck provides you with fake silverware, fake food and technology. You can bring extra prompts if you would like.
Q: Do I have to participate or can my group come and present after-school?
A: You have to present IN CLASS - No exceptions.
Q: Can we film our presentation?
A: Mme Beck will be doing this for you - ALL FOR FREE!
Q: When can we practice? My group never have time to meet up, we have different schedules.
A: Google Docs is a great place to start! But you can always come before school, after-school and during lunches. Please confirm with Mme Beck before coming.
Q: How will you grade us?
A: A portion of your grade will be from your group. I will explain in class.
Q: What if... (here goes the ONLY what if? that I will answer) my group or members or a member of my group is not carrying their own weight?
A: Remember to choose your group wisely - not because someone is your BFF but because you will learn from this person. If someone (or more than one person) is not helping or being helpful, please see me privately and I will address that person. I promise that your group member(s) will never know that you spoke to me. I have had this incident happen before and students will tell you that I kept their concerns to myself and addressed their peers.
If you have done all this and you still don't know what to do SEE ME! You can always see me for extra help, but I need to see a draft with work that you have tried!

Mme Beck, I need help ...
- Find group members that AGREE to work with you.
- Mme Beck MUST approve your group.
- Think of the meal you would like to present.
- Where is the scene taking place? Fast-Food restaurant, in Paris, on the beachside of Nice or at the top of the Eiffel Tower... are some ideas.
- What is the ordinary event in your play? (Mme Beck will show you previous recordings and discuss this in class)
- Who is WHO? Who will be the waiter/waitress? Give out characters.
- Now begin writing your scenes (How many do you need to complete the play?).
- Would you like to have music or a scenery in the background? Find one and bring it to class.
- Remind your group that you can come during lunches, after-school or before school to practice! (Please confirm with Mme Beck before coming.)
